8 Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery went to France in August 1914 as part of 5th Division took part in much of the early fighting. At the beginning of December, 1914 they were operating at St Jans Cappel, just to the north of Bailleul and at 3pm on 7th December, William Brown was one of four men who were killed when the 65th Battery were themselves hit by shell fire. |
